Rate Western Digital External Hard Drives

I’m aware that this Western Digital hard drive was released a while back. Still even in May 2011, this hard drive still runs very well. I purchased this hard drive at the end of January 2011. So far, no indication of hiccups or malfunction. Perfect! My experiences rate western digital external hard drives:

- Transfer speed is quite good for a USB 2.0 external HDD that came out a few years back.

- For photos it stays around a constant 15 mb/s 2) Game files it jumps up and down (due to varying file sizes), so varies between 10 mb/s to 30 mb/s 3) Movie files is at a constant 20 – 25 mb/s. However, it should really also depend on your computer’s CPU and motherboard. I’m using a AMD CPU HDZ955FBGMBOX Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz AM3 125W Retail and ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 – AM3 – AMD 880G – DDR3 – USB 3.0 SATA 6 Gb/s – ATX Motherboard. Generally, transfer speeds is very good.

- Design looks surprising sleek. Judging from the images and product page, the external HDD looks like a heavy brick. However, it’s nothing like it. It’s quite compact, sleek, and stylish. I’m proud of leaving it visible on my desktop.

- Cooling is subtle but effective. The HDD gets warm but it never reaches scorching hot temperature.

- Many options for how to position the external HDD. I wouldn’t put it completely flat with the larger surface facing up because I’d like to give it some air for ventilation. I usually leave it standing on the narrower edge of the external HDD. It can sit flat on your desk, it can stand vertically, or horizontally. Really, there’s some versatility when it comes to positioning how you want the external HDD.

- Wires aren’t too clunky. There’s the USB cord and of course the power cord. They don’t interfere too much, even though I move the external HDD quite frequently. I’m always transporting it between places in my backpack. Still, the USB cord stays relatively separate from the power cord.

- Good back up HDD. I have a laptop, netbook, and desktop. I use it frequently to back up my files, photos, movies, and games. I put everything on this sweet hardware! I also use it when I’m about to reformat my computers. Very solid and expected performance.

There’s really not that many negatives when it comes to this external HDD. Great value and performance!
