As expected after reformatting to Mac OES this external hard drive works flawlessly. I have been using this one for 2 months now with no problems and have owned similar WD hard drives for years now that still work perfectly. Being a 1 TB I am sure it will work well backing up the Macbook 500GB hard drive as well as provide ample storage for other data as well.
One of the only downfalls I can pick out with this item is the use of a USB port, common with most hard drives but for it being 1 TB the use of Fire wire 800 or Thunder cable would be much quicker in moving large amounts of data to and from the drive. I am willing to forego this technical aspect in favor of WD more rugged reliability.
Very portable, especially for the storage capacity. Use it for school and for.backing up personal files. Will be buying more when the price comes back down. Bought mine for 75.00 on Amazon a few months back. Not too happy with the shipping though. Ups just left it in front of my apartment complex with no signature. I’m lucky no else picked it up…
This external hard drive is outstanding, but it’s not my first one. I bought the “big book” 1TB from the same company (Western Digital) two years ago. One of the main issues I’ve had with it was it wasn’t portable enough. I had a lot of movies, pictures, music, and backup files on it, but it was such a pain having to find a power source. Of course, they had a few 1TB drives on the market that were available to purchase, but I just stuck with my big book.
Now that I’ve waited for the issues of previous models to be fixed, I went ahead and bought this drive. I haven’t looked back since. It’s a great drive that works really fast when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. It’s very portable as it’s small enough to put in your pocket. I’ve never heard the drive make any noise when it’s plugged up so it’s very quiet. Plus, it just looks great. (I bought the red one) The biggest sale for me was that I could plug it up and not worry about finding a wall outlet because it runs off it’s own power via USB. I couldn’t be happier.
