Will I Have To Reformat WD 500 GB HDD To Store Movies Photos And View Them With PS3
Posted in Use by Manyu Thursday, July 28th, 2011I’m planning to use Western Digital WD Elements 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive to store movies and photos and view them with my PS3. Will I have to reformat this or is it already compatible? so u actually use this drive on your ps3? and it works fine with out problems?
The format is NTFS. You’ll have to format it to FAT32 to use with the PS3.
I created a 700GB FAT 32 partition on mine to use with my PS3.
Also, remember that you can’t store files larger than 4GB with FAT32 so check the sizes of your movie files.
I bought one yesterday. I had to format using an application FAT32FORMATER which was super easy and worked perfectly. I partitioned 200 GB for FAT32 and worked on my PS3 no problem.
Can this hard drive be used on more than one computer? I have two computers that I need to back up and store stuff, not at the same time but I do want to be able to switch to the other computer on occasion.
I formatted a 1TB external HDD for my friend to use with his PS3 slim and it is working great. I got my own 500GB FAT32 with my old fat PS3 and it is working great as well.
